Some Old Friends End Up in Unexpected Places, in Unexpected Ways

The afternoon of April 23rd was pretty much a typical afternoon for me, I generally take a break and sit for a few minutes with a cup of coffee and peruse the internet.  I came across a Chattic interview with Nicole Sawyer and  Toma Clark Haines, The Antiques Diva, titled "Learn How to Pair Timeless Treasures with Modern Designs."  Toma is owner of the world's largest antique touring company, with antique tours in England, France, Thailand, Cambodia, Italy, Myanmar, Sweden, Denmark, Vietnam, Germany, Indonesia, Belgium, Laos, and United States.  The interview was charming, informative and quite enjoyable, so I found myself all caught up in it and loving the lively exchange between Nicole and Toma, then Andrew Ford, when up popped the image of a painting I did years ago when the subject came to mixing art and antiques.  The last I saw of that painting was when it was being placed in a crate headed to Las Vegas! I hadn't thought of that painting in eons!  Well that was fun and totally unexpected!

If you love antiques, and want to watch this wonderful short video I am including it below, it is a lot of fun, and you can learn about a new app coming soon which teaches you how to value vintage and antique treasures from those in the know!

Toma Clark Haines "What I like is when you take a Renaissance piece and then mix it in a room.  Throw in an Eames chair.  Throw in a grand master painting simultaneously, that's what works with antiques."

Andrew Ford, Ford Art & Antiques, Inc. : "I would agree, and that is a lot of what you are seeing in design magazines these days.  And maybe an 18th century commode with a more contemporary painting..."

... and there she was.  My painting.  Sometimes you run into an old friend when having a sip of coffee and perusing the internet.

Amber and I have worked previously on an exciting commercial project featuring three original functional art doors, and look forward to offering original fine art doors now for residential, corporate and public spaces!

Someone has the summertime blues...

 Sold

36x24 a/c/  Available through Markay Gallery

Below is the second of Jane Kenyon's "Three Songs at the End of Summer,"
which most resonates with me as I adore summertime and am always deflated at its passing!  But thankful for every day of life and its glory, I will look forward to summer next.
For those who love autumn and winter, your joy is full, and joy is always a good thing.  Again, from Jane Kenyon, “Three Songs at the End of Summer” from Collected Poems.

"The cicada’s dry monotony breaks
over me. The days are bright
and free, bright and free.

Then why did I cry today
for an hour, with my whole
body, the way babies cry?"

Mini Tempest Paintings on tiny Easels - Tina Steele Lindsey

Nestled behind behind the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art in Marietta, GA, Markey Gallery will be opening its doors with its Grand Opening on July 7th.  Its owner and director, Amber Byrd, is a savvy young entrepreneur who has been on the art scene in Marietta and Atlanta for some time.

I met Amber a few years back when represented at the ever popular dk Gallery.  Amber was an assistant there at the time, and her picturesque stance, genteel nature and smile were infectious; visitors, artists, and clientele gravitated toward her like moths to a light!  Amber's continued and steadfast involvement in the arts scene as an ambitious promoter and publication writer/photographer, and work as an artist representative continued to garner her great respect in the community. I look forward to seeing her gallery come into its own over the coming months, and working with her as an artist represented by the gallery.

Thank you for visiting my blog, additional information regarding art works may be found HERE.

I lost two angels but gained two more ...

I bid you adieu!
Angel in acrylic - by Tina Steele Lindsey

And adieu to you, too!
Angel in pastel pencils by Tina Steele Lindsey

After a particularly trying day, which I shall not go into here, a couple from Pittsburg stepped into the gallery minutes before I was leaving.  We had lovely conversation and visit, they were very complimentary.  Before leaving they purchased two of my angels, two I did not intend to sell but rather used as examples of my work; due their great enthusiasm for them I agreed to sell.  After they departed I began gathering my things to leave for the day when I spied their sales receipt on the counter.  I dashed out the door to the parking lot in order to locate them, and as I couldn't I then popped into fellow merchant's businesses hoping they were still in town, but alas the patrons were not to be found.  Returning to the gallery I locked the door and minutes later saw the gentleman hurrying across the parking lot toward the door.  Greeting him with receipt in my hand I announced I was happy he returned for it!  He replied he had not returned for the receipt but rather came back hoping I was still there, he and his wife couldn't possibly go back to Pennsylvania without purchasing two of my abstracts they had admired the first time!  So I bid farewell to my bad day, two angels, and gained two new ones!  Godspeed!

Have a Little Faith in Your Work - Part II

Thank you Brooklyn Living  for pairing an image of my painting with your floral arrangement on your site!  It does a body good to know this painting has been appreciated so!  Two (2) other pairings from others of this particular painting were posted here in March 2013, blog post titled ,  Have a Little Faith in your Work.

Very excited that things are coming along in my new gallery location, I will post more on that nearing completion!  If you are an artist interested in submitting, please go to my website.
Until then, my best!

I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure, which is try to please everybody. ~ Herbert Bayard Swope

This is an extremely large painting which now resides in a residence in a very large room with high ceilings and a solid long wall.  I am always surprised to see how walls can eat up paintings, so large often is perfect.  I enjoyed its process immensely.

Every once in a while I catch an image of one of my paintings on the web and I will see a painting installed in a different orientation than how I painted it.  I think it works well this way, so thanks to the talented eye of NancyPrice who installed this painting horizontally for her client!

Orange Mallow II ~ and you flu, too?

This is Orange Mallow II, a square version of my original Orange Mallow which has been highlighted on this blog previously.  It is a commissioned piece.  This is something I generally would never attempt regarding most of my abstractions, however this particular painting had focal points to work off in lieu of big swaths of color.  I was able to deliver the same feel and look of the first but with some differences, and it be uniquely its own.  There will be no Orange Mallow III, the first and second stand on their own and I have enjoyed their processes immensely.
Now, I've been sick for 13 days and am as weak as water... I feel like a helium balloon!

I enjoyed this painting as part of a fun project I worked under for one of Atlanta's fave designers, Claire Watkins of Claire Watkins Interior Design.
Claire and this painting will be featured in the winter on HGTV.
